Endoscopy
Endoscopy is the use of specialised video cameras to evaluate areas within the body in a minimally, invasive manner. It allows direct visual examination of internal organs and body parts without surgery. It is also possible to take small samples [biopsies] of the inside organs for histopathology.
At Bakenkop Animal Clinic we have two endoscopes:
- A rigid endoscope for nasal passages and ear canals
- A flexible scope for the oesophagus, stomach and upper part of the small intestine
Endoscopy is a minimal invasive procedure, low risk and not painful. It can only be performed under general anaesthesia.
